The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has declared Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the political leader of the party in the state.
This was made known by the Publicity Secretary of the Emeka Beke-led faction of the APC, Darlington Nwauju, while reacting to the ongoing war of words between the National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Bashiru had earlier issued a statement warning party officials against what he described as unwarranted comments, following remarks by the National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the APC, Victor Giadom, who berated Governor Fubara and openly declared support for Wike.
The National Secretary also cautioned Wike to steer clear of the party’s internal politics, stressing that the former Rivers State governor is not a member of the APC. Bashiru’s warning came after Wike reportedly advised him to stay out of Rivers State politics.
Reacting to the development, Nwauju said the APC in Rivers State fully supports the position of the National Secretary, urging the FCT Minister to refrain from interfering in the party’s affairs, which he said undermines its internal processes.
He called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to stand firmly behind Bashiru, insisting that a non-member has no right to meddle in the internal affairs of the APC.
Nwauju further declared Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the political leader of the APC in Rivers State, maintaining that the Emeka Beke-led faction remains the authentic and recognized structure of the party in the state.
