The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has downplayed concerns over voter apathy in the ongoing local government elections, saying it is a recurring feature in Nigerian polls.
Speaking to journalists after casting his ballot at Ward 12, Unit 11 in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Okocha described the exercise as seamless and better organized than previous elections.
On the expectations from winners of the poll, he urged them to focus on people-oriented governance with emphasis on infrastructural development and service delivery.
“Apathy is not unusual in elections. Some persons would decide not to come out and vote.
“Some children would take the opportunity, advantage of the fact that there is no movement to start playing football on the road. So, it is like that,” Okocha said.
