Rivers Academics under the aegis of ‘Simplified Academics’ comprising of Professors, PhD holders, Senior Academicians and Senior Non-Academic Staff have called for an end to the political crisis in Rivers State.
The group led by its Coordinator-General, Prof. Akuro Gobo called on political actors to put an end to the crisis for the best interest of the state, noting that the political turmoil was hindering development in the Oil rich state.
The Pro-fubara group made the call during a press briefing at the Conference Hall, Old Senate Building, Rivers State University Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
According to Gobo, in other states once elections are over, political actors come together to work for the development of the state, and queried why that of the state was different.
“We have observed with sadness the events in Rivers State and the subsequent effect on the affairs of the state. After the election of His Excellency, Amaopusenibo, Sir Dr. Siminalayi Fubara, we expected every true Rivers Person to give all necessary support to His Excellency… to move the state forward,” he said.
Prof. Gobo appealed to former governor of the state and now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to join hands with Gov. Fubara to move the state forward, and also use his office as Minister to attract development to the state.
He hailed the developmental strides of Gov. Fubara which includes, Christmas bonus for workers, construction of numerous road projects, payment of salaries, the recent announcement of N85,000 minimum wage for civil servants among others.
He revealed that the group and Rivers people in general are grateful to God for gifting them Gov Fubara at this demanding time to liberate Rivers state.
“Rivers people are happy with the Governor and his developmental strides going on in the state.
“Governor Siminalayi Fubara we are proud of you, we are grateful to you, we are grateful to God for giving you to us at this demanding time to liberate Rivers State. We appeal to the good people of Rivers state to continue to give the Governor the necessary support for eight years as all others had including immediate past Governor.
“We call on the Honorable Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Barr Ezebunwo Wike GSSRS who was once our student to bring development from his Ministerial position to Rivers State,” Gobo added.
The briefing was attended by representatives from the five higher institutions in the state which include, Rivers State University, Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and College of Health Science and Management Technology.
