Members of the Rivers Civil Society Organizations (RIVCSO) staged a peaceful protest at the Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt on Tuesday demanding urgent action in the case of 12-year-old Favour Oluwaseyi Oluwatofunmi, who has been missing since August 7, 2024.
Favour was reportedly abducted after being lured from her father’s home by a friend. Despite the family’s efforts and what they describe as “overwhelming evidence,” including a bank account linked to a ransom payment traced to a suspect currently held at Enugu Correctional Facility, there has been no breakthrough in locating the child.
Protesters, including Favour’s distraught family members, marched to the police headquarters calling for accountability and transparency. The police, according to RIVCSO, have pledged to take swift action within two weeks and to interrogate all persons of interest in the case.
“We will hold the authorities to their promise. But if nothing is done, we will not hesitate to mobilize for a larger protest until Favour is safely returned,” said RIVCSO spokesperson Barituka Loanyie.
The protest concluded with emotional scenes as Favour’s parents broke down in tears. RIVCSO vowed to continue pushing until justice is served.
“History shall vindicate the just,” Loanyie added.
