A resident of Port Harcourt, identified as Comrade Phil’s on Facebook, has raised alarm over the persistent wave of kidnappings along Iwofe Road, describing the situation as a long-standing security failure in Rivers State.
According to the resident, abductions within the Iwofe axis are not new but have become a recurring nightmare for residents over the years. He expressed concern that despite the crimes being concentrated in a specific area, security agencies have yet to effectively curb the trend.
Phil’s questioned the efficiency of security intelligence, noting that the continued operations of criminal elements in the area suggest lapses in law enforcement efforts. He added that repeated reports and growing public awareness have not translated into decisive action against the perpetrators.
The concerns come amid reports of the recent abduction of Miss Precious Christopher, a student of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. She was reportedly kidnapped while on her way to school after boarding a commercial tricycle, popularly known as a “keke,” from the GRA axis.
The development has heightened fears among residents, with Phil’s warning that Port Harcourt is increasingly becoming unsafe. He alleged that beyond kidnappings, residents also face threats ranging from reckless convoy incidents to targeted attacks while going about their daily activities.
He further claimed that between March 19 and the present, at least three troubling incidents have been recorded, stressing that many more cases go unreported or fail to gain public attention.
The situation, he said, raises critical questions about governance and the ability of authorities to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
As of the time of this report, security agencies in Rivers State have yet to issue an official response to the latest concerns.
