The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISIEC) has commenced the screening of candidates contesting in the forthcoming local government elections.

The screening exercise began on Thursday, August 8, 2025, at the commission’s headquarters on Aba Road in Port Harcourt. It is expected to conclude on Friday, August 9.

Aspirants vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions turned out in large numbers to undergo the verification process and fulfill the commission’s eligibility criteria.

RISIEC officials were on ground to receive documents and interview candidates as part of the screening protocol, which marks a crucial step in the lead-up to the much-anticipated polls.
