Dozens of residents from Streets in Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt, staged a protest on Monday over the failure of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company’s (PHED) to repair a faulty transformer that has left the area in darkness for nearly a month.
The demonstrators, who gathered at the PHED office on Abeokuta Street, opposite the NITEL office in D/Line, began the protest in the morning carrying placards with messages such as “PHED, You Are Supposed To Be Agents Of Light, Not Darkness,” “No Light, No Payment,” and “We Are Tired Of Paying For Darkness.”
The protest concluded with a meeting between community representatives and PHED officials. The company reportedly assured the residents that steps would be taken to resolve the issue promptly.
