The Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA, says residents across Rivers State are advocating for the reinstatement of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
Special Assistant on Electronic Media to Hon. Prince Ohia, Acting Sole Administrator (RIWAMA), Obed Douglas in a statement said, residents are urging the agency to reintroduce the initiative to promote a cleaner environment.
According to him, the advocates argue that bringing back the monthly exercise would significantly contribute to maintaining cleanliness in the state capital and surrounding local government areas.
They believe that regular community involvement is essential for fostering a sustainable environment.
He said in response to these calls, the acting Sole Administrator addressed the media, stating, “Nothing is impossible. Reinstating the monthly sanitation is achievable. However, our vision is to instill in the people of the state that environmental cleanliness should be a way of life. If we can make sanitation a daily habit, there would be no need for a designated sanitation day—every day should be an opportunity for maintaining a clean environment.”
He added that the RIWAMA administrator urged residents to adopt good sanitation practices consistently, encouraging them to take personal responsibility for their surroundings.
