Ayodele Asalu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has alleged that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu significantly increased constituency project allocations for federal lawmakers following the removal of fuel subsidy.
Speaking during a recent meeting with supporters and APC members, Asalu claimed that members of the House of Representatives now receive no less than N1 billion each for constituency projects, compared to previous allocations of around N200 million. He further stated that Senators currently receive a minimum of N2 billion.
A trending video showed Asalu— a former House of Representatives aspirant for the Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency — speaking in Yoruba, emphasizing that the rise in lawmakers’ project funds coincided with an increase in federal allocations to states after the end of the subsidy regime.
He urged the public not to mistake lawmakers’ projects as personal gestures, noting they are funded by federal allocations designated for constituency development.
