Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed reports portraying the state as unsafe, describing them as politically motivated and grossly exaggerated.
Speaking on Sunday at the 6th edition of the Python Golf Club 2025 Pro-Amateur Golf Championship in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara said the large turnout of golfers and spectators was clear evidence that Rivers remains peaceful, open for business, and welcoming to tourists.
The governor stated that many negative media reports were fabricated to damage the state’s image, stressing that the political unrest that once caused a six-month disruption had long been resolved. He added that calm and normalcy had since been fully restored.
Commending security agencies for their effective operations, Governor Fubara said the free and safe movement enjoyed by visitors at the event further proved that Rivers State is secure. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the championship and other events capable of attracting national and international participation.
He urged participants to share their positive experiences, noting that the state government is determined to change the narrative and project Rivers as a safe destination.
Major General Emmanuel Emekah also highlighted the peaceful atmosphere that made hosting the tournament possible. Sponsor of the event, Chief Ikenna Okafor, expressed delight that a sitting governor attended for the first time in 15 years, adding that participants from eight African countries took part — a testament to their confidence in the state’s stability.
