A joint Team of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) today visited the LGA for an Enumeration of potential beneficiaries of a Federal Government palliative initiative targeted at residents of areas affected by flooding in the past year.
Briefing the Executive Chairman, Hon. Onengiyeofori George, DSSRS, on their mission and the nature of work involved, the group explained that these exercises are done regularly across the country to cushion the effects of the menace caused mainly by flooding, where livelihoods of entire communities are wiped away, especially for agrarian terrains. They further clarified that this was only the first of three phases which will culminate in the distribution of relief materials which they listed to include foodstuff, seedlings, farm tools and equipment, grinding machines, and other economic-enhancing items.
While thanking the Team for the transparency of making this open to the general public for the first time instead of a one-man show to gain political points, ASALGA’s Council Boss, Hon. George pleaded with the Team comprising the three Agencies to expand the relief materials to other items like Tricycles because of their durability and averse inclination to road accidents, including other valuable items of economic importance to the masses.
