Refutation of Rumours Regarding Stampede at Local Government Verification Exercise
It has come to our attention that there are unfounded rumours circulating regarding a supposed stampede during the recent Local Government Verification Exercise organized by the Office of the Head of Service holding at the Ministry of Justice, State Secretariat Complex, Port Harcourt.
We would like to categorically refute these claims and clarify the situation to prevent any further misinformation.
The alleged stampede was not an occurrence of mass panic or chaos, but rather, a brief disturbance caused by the unruly behavior of an identified local government staff member attempting to force his way into the hall. This individual, disregarding the established protocols, was denied entry by our vigilant security officers. Their swift and professional response ensured that the situation was promptly contained, preventing any potential escalation.
It is important to emphasise that the verification exercise proceeded smoothly and successfully, with all participants adhering to the necessary guidelines. The Office of the Head of Service remains committed to maintaining a safe and organised environment for all involved.
We urge the public and all stakeholders to disregard these rumours as they are baseless and do not reflect the true nature of the event. Our focus is on ensuring the integrity of our processes, and we appreciate the cooperation of everyone who are participating in the verification exercise.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Dr (Mrs) Inyingi S. I. Brown.
Acting Head of Service Rivers State.
