PRESS STATEMENT
Following malicious and unfounded allegations that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Sanitation, Hon. Prince Obi Ohia, had awarded contracts to his wife, several refuse contractors covering the Mile Three to Rukpokwu axis of Port Harcourt have come forward to refute the claims.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, one of the contractors, Dr. Cornwell Ihunwo, stated that they have been working with the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) for a long time and still have existing contracts.
“I was surprised when I heard in the news that my contract has been given to Hon Ohia’s wife. Let me tell the public I have been working in RIWAMA for the past 9 years. My zone is from School of Health to Rumuokwuta. As I’m talking to you, I’m still working. We have not in any way lost our job,” he said.
Echoing a similar sentiment, the acting Secretary of the Rivers State Waste Management Association, Peter Ogba, stated that the allegation against the acting RIWAMA boss is “not only false but aimed at tarnishing his hard-earned image.”
He added, “I am here to debunk the wicked, malicious, and devilish allegation that they have collected my job and given it to his wife. This is a wicked allegation, I was shocked when I heard the news. I thought my contract had been revoked. On behalf of the Rivers State Waste Management Association, I state clearly that the five contractors covering from Mile 3 Ikwerre road to Rukpokwu Greater Evangelism, our contracts are still intact.”
The Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, Malvin Abbey, also clarified that the agency did not re-award the contracts of the affected areas as alleged in the media report by the falsehood peddlers.
