LAGOS — The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Tuesday announced the arrest of several international fugitives at Nigerian airports, including individuals on the International Police (INTERPOL) red list.
According to the minister, the arrests occurred within 48 hours of the suspects’ arrival into the country and involved criminals wanted across multiple European nations, including Italy and the Republic of Ireland.
Tunji-Ojo attributed the successful operations to recent investments in surveillance and intelligence-gathering infrastructure deployed at Nigeria’s border points.
He made the disclosure during a regional workshop on maritime border security themed “Regional Maritime Border Security in the Context of Counter Terrorism in the Gulf of Guinea,” held in Lagos.
