The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed its poor performance in Saturday’s by-elections on alleged widespread violence, vote buying, and electoral irregularities said to have occurred under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the exercise was marred by incidents that cast serious doubt on the credibility of the polls.
According to the ADC, about 300 armed thugs were arrested on election day in some states, while several polling units were cancelled following ballot box snatching and voter intimidation. The party also alleged cases of vote buying, citing the arrest of a suspect in Kaduna with N25.9 million and reports of election officials being compromised.
The ADC further raised alarm over the failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in certain locations, questioning both the competence and sincerity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
