A civil organization known as YIAGA Africa has denied claims by the 23 local government chairmen of Rivers State that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is sabotaging the ongoing registration of Permanent Voters Card in the state.
Chairmen of the 23 local government areas of the state, led by Mayor of Port Harcourt, Allwell Ihunda had staged a protest to INEC office, accusing them of trying to disenfranchise people of the state.
But, Coordinator of YIAGA Africa in the state, Obinna Igbodi in a statement on Monday, dismissed the claims.
He said the electoral body are on ground in the state, doing everything within its power to ensure registration of residents.
Obinna, also noted that their personnel are all over the 23 local government areas of the state monitoring the process.
In addition, he called on political leaders to support the electoral body and sensitize their supporters on the need to get their Permanent Voters Cards.
