The Rivers State House of Assembly, has slammed local government chairmen who turned down its invitation to a public hearing on soot yesterday.
Speaker of the House, Ikunyi Ibani who spoke through Hon. Sam Oge representing Emuoha state constituency, described the act as disrespectful and disappointing.
According to him, such act would not be tolerated in the future, adding that the matter deserves proper attention.
While the council chairmen of Phalga, Emouha, Obio Akpor, Khana, Ahoada West attended, that of Ikwerre, Gokana and Ogu Bolo sent representatives.
The Rivers State House of Assembly Joint Committee on Environment and Health yesterday, invited critical stakeholders in the Environment and Health sectors to a public hearing on the Bill for a law to amend the date Environmental and Management law No. 15 of 2019.
The Bill is aimed at amending the extant law to provide for penalties to curb the menace of soot in the state.
