As Academic activities resume on the 9th of September, 2024, the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, UBEC, has reiterated that primary and secondary education in the state is free.
Chairman of the Board, Alabo David Briggs made this known in a statement on Thursday.
According to him, a monitoring team has been set up to move round the schools and ensure that no one is collecting fees from students.
He said anyone caught flouting the directive will be prosecuted inline with the laws of the state, adding that parents who fail to register their children of school age risk jail term or payment of fine.
He also urged members of the public to report any school requesting money from their students, and report parents who fail to enroll their children in school.
