The Rivers State Government says the prevalence rate of malaria has reduced drastically since the current administration took over power in 2015.
Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo who said this during a goodwill message to mark this year’s World Malaria Day, at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Saturday, noted that all hands must be on deck to tackle malaria in Africa.
She said the government is working tirelessly to eradicate the deadly disease, which is a major cause of deaths in children, in Africa.
Banigo called on residents of the State, to ensure they keep their surroundings clean; sleep under insecticide nets and take the right medication whenever they fall sick, as eradicating the menace is possible.
The state Commissioner for Health, Princewill Chike on his part, said the State ranks amongst the best five states in malaria control, in the country.
He said there are numerous intervention programmes in place by the state government to ensure the eradication of the disease.
“World Malaria Day” is marked every April 25, globally to bring attention to the deadly disease.
