The Presidential Committee on the Overhaul and Revamp of Training Institutions for Security Agencies has pledged to fast-track the refurbishment of police training facilities nationwide.
The committee, led by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, gave the assurance on Thursday after inspecting the abandoned Nigeria Police Training School in Nonwa-Tai, Rivers State. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; and retired IGP Baba Usman were part of the visit.
Governor Mbah said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the nationwide assessment as part of efforts to strengthen security and enable the planned recruitment of 30,000 additional police personnel.
“Nothing short of a complete and urgent overhaul is required,” Mbah said, adding that the committee would submit its first report within one month to kick off full renovation and re-equipping of the facilities.
Governor Fubara described the intervention as vital to restoring professionalism and morale in the police force, while Governor Abiodun noted that the committee has been split into northern and southern teams to meet deadlines.
“This is clear evidence of political will from Mr President,” Abiodun said. “We will ensure training can begin under proper conditions.”
The committee was inaugurated by President Tinubu through the National Economic Council to drive immediate improvements in security training nationwide.
