President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 50 doctors and 100 nurses to address the medical needs of inmates in correctional centres nationwide, according to a report by News360 Nigeria.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Babatunde Alao, spokesperson for the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Alao stated that the approval was granted by President Tinubu through the minister.
In addition, the minister secured presidential approval for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to deploy medical doctors to correctional facilities during their service year, aimed at safeguarding the rights of vulnerable inmates.
