President Muhammad Buhari on Monday signed the COVID- 19 Regulations 2020, declaring the coronavirus a dangerous infectious disease.
The statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina detailed that the regulation is effective from March 30, 2020. This gives the necessary legal backing to the different measures outlined in the President’s National Broadcast on March 29, 2020 including the restriction/cessation of movement in Lagos, FCT and Ogun State and others. These steps are primarily aimed at curbing the spread of Coronavirus in the country.
The statement also noted that financial institutions are exempted from the lockdown in order to enable Nigerians perform on-line transactions and have access to ATMs.
