Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was on Monday brought before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, to face a nine-count criminal charge.
The Ogun State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the charges border on assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting lawful arrest.
Portable’s arraignment followed the circulation of a viral video on Sunday showing him in police custody. The development was reportedly linked to a complaint lodged by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
According to the prosecution, the singer allegedly attacked Ashabi on New Year’s Day at his bar located in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State. The police further alleged that several officers and other individuals were assaulted during the incident.
Those listed as victims in the charge include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
The prosecution also accused Portable of unlawfully taking a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, reportedly belonging to Ileyemi Damilola and linked to a car dealer identified as Wally Dex Auto.
During proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as prosecution witnesses, although Ashabi herself was absent from the court.
The police further alleged that the singer obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
Ruling on the bail application, the presiding judge declined to grant bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge insisted that the officer must appear before any decision on bail could be made.
Portable was consequently remanded in custody, with the court adjourning the matter to January 19 for fresh consideration of his bail application.
