The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced Port Harcourt as the host city for its 2026 Annual General Conference, unveiling the theme “Beyond Limits.”
The announcement was made on Friday at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja by the association’s President, Mr. Afam Osigwe, SAN. According to him, the theme challenges legal practitioners to transcend conventional boundaries and embrace innovation in justice delivery, governance, and professional practice.
Osigwe explained that selecting Port Harcourt in the South-South region reflects the NBA’s commitment to national inclusiveness and balanced representation, noting that the association aims to ensure its programmes connect meaningfully with members across all regions of the country.
Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Mr. Abdul Mohammed, SAN, disclosed that preparations for the conference have already commenced, with a focus on delivering a world-class event that meets international standards.
The event also featured the inauguration of a co-working space designed to support young lawyers. The facility, located at the NBA National Secretariat, is intended to address economic and structural challenges faced by early-career practitioners by providing a professional environment for client meetings, research, and collaboration.
The initiative was driven by the NBA Welfare Committee and fully funded by its chairman, Chief James Onoja, SAN, with coordination by the Welfare Secretary, Mr. Auta Nyada.
In recognition of exemplary service to the legal profession, the co-working space was named after a former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, whose contributions to mentorship and ethical advocacy inspired the project.
The NBA encouraged its local branches to replicate similar initiatives at their respective bar centres. It also announced that registration for the 2026 Annual General Conference is now open, with further details on speakers and programme schedules to be released in due course.
