A resident of Port Harcourt has raised concerns over the alleged deliberate destruction of drainage slabs by roadside traders to enable the dumping of refuse into gutters, a practice he warns could worsen the city’s flooding problems.
Speaking to our correspondent, the resident claimed he personally witnessed traders lifting and damaging slabs along a major road to dispose of waste directly into the drainage system. According to him, when confronted, the traders apologized for their actions.
He condemned the act, describing it as a major contributor to the persistent flooding in parts of the city. The resident further urged relevant authorities to monitor such activities closely and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
