A Nigerian feature film, “Dara: A Port Harcourt Love Story?”, has been selected for screening at the 2026 DC Independent Film Festival, emerging as the only African production among five feature films chosen for this year’s global showcase.
The film was written by Miracle Abia, directed by Bobby Rak and produced by MMAC Company Productions. It is scheduled to be screened on February 15, 2026, at the Regal Theatre, Gallery Place, in Washington DC.
Founded in 1999, the DC Independent Film Festival is the longest-running independent film festival in Washington DC and is known for promoting bold and original storytelling across feature films, documentaries, short films and animation.The festival provides a platform for innovative and socially relevant works while connecting filmmakers with global audiences.
Set in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the movie is a suspense-driven coming-of-age drama that follows a TikTok sensation whose university life takes a troubling turn.
The story explores his involvement in cult groups, a toxic romantic relationship and campus violence, highlighting the hidden dangers behind youthful fame and the search for acceptance.
