Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has urged Nigerians to actively safeguard their votes and ensure credible leadership in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a panel discussion in Abuja on Monday, January 27, Amaechi emphasized the need for political vigilance, warning that power is never freely given but must be fought for.
“You are talking and abusing people. Nobody has power and will give it to you, not even me. If you want a pastor as president, go and get one.
“The politician is there in Nigeria to steal, maim, and kill to remain in power. If you think Tinubu will give it to you, you are wasting your time,” he stated.
He recounted his experience leading the All Progressives Congress (APC) to victory over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 elections, attributing the success to the determination and preparedness of APC leaders to confront any opposition.
Amaechi noted that former President Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat only after recognizing that the APC was fully prepared to defend its mandate. He called on citizens to adopt the same resolve in safeguarding democratic processes in future elections.
