Former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to remember political leaders in their prayers, describing politicians as the main source of the country’s problems.
Obi made the appeal on Sunday, February 1, during a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, held as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Oyo State.
Speaking at the service, the former Anambra State governor said Nigeria’s difficulties were largely self-inflicted, stressing that leadership failure, not a lack of resources, was responsible for the nation’s struggles.
“I want to make a request of Nigerians. Please remember us politicians in your prayers. We are the problem of Nigeria, not anyone else,” Obi said.
He noted that Nigeria is abundantly endowed but suffers from poor governance and misuse of public resources.
“Nigeria is not a poor country; it is poorly governed. Nigerians should pray that God touches the hearts of leaders to use public funds for the common good. If public money is used rightly, the country will be better,” he added.
