The Rivers State Police Command has called on the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Nwanosike to check the rising cases of human rights abuses between security outfit, OSPAC and residents in the LGA.
Nnamdi Omoni who made this known in a press briefing yesterday in Port Harcourt said Nwanosike’s primary duty is to ensure the protection of lives and properties of residents of his LGA, and not otherwise.
Omoni said the council Boss does not have the right to arrest and subject anyone in his LGA to inhuman treatment. If he does any of such, or anything contrary to the law, he would be arrested and prosecuted as he is not above the law, he asserted.
The spokesperson noted that they have had cases where LG chairmen were arrested and prosecuted, for going contrary to the laws of the land.
There have been series of reports by members of the LGA, over incessant harassment by the security outfit, “OSPAC” in the LGA.
