The Rivers State Police Command has announced that a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles operating without valid registration number plates or with obscured plates will commence on Monday, March 16, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the command said the operation is aimed at enhancing public safety, strengthening crime prevention, and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations across the state.
The police warned that any vehicle found using revolving or flashing lights without an official letter of approval from the appropriate authority would be impounded.
According to the command, vehicles without proper identification and those illegally using revolving lights pose significant security risks and are often linked to criminal activities.
The command also cautioned against the use of tinted glasses on commercial vehicles, noting that such vehicles are frequently exploited by “one chance” kidnapping syndicates to carry out criminal acts.
Residents were advised to exercise caution when boarding vehicles with heavily tinted windows.
Motorists across the state have been urged to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and display clear and visible number plates at all times. The unauthorized use of revolving or flashing lights by private individuals, the police said, is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. Defaulters risk having their vehicles impounded and may face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured residents that the enforcement exercise would be carried out professionally, fairly, and without bias. He also called on residents to cooperate with officers of the command to ensure public safety and security.
The police further advised the public to carry relevant vehicle documents while driving, remove any unauthorized flashing lights from their vehicles, and remain vigilant when boarding commercial vehicles with tinted windows.
Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines as part of efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
