The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to resume full enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy from January 2, 2026, citing growing security concerns nationwide.
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 15, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said the decision followed recent security assessments linking an increase in criminal activities to the use of vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass.
The Force clarified that although the matter is still before a court, there is no court order restraining the police from enforcing existing laws regulating the use of tinted glass on vehicles.
Hundeyin explained that enforcement was earlier suspended in the interest of transparency and public convenience, to allow motorists sufficient time to regularise their documents and complete the permit registration process without pressure.
According to him, criminals have increasingly exploited vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass to conceal their identities while committing offences such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
“In view of the disturbing rise in such criminal activities, the Nigeria Police Force has found it both necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard our communities,” the statement said.
The police advised motorists who require tinted glass permits to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with all legal requirements ahead of the January 2 enforcement date.
