The Rivers State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the killing of a young woman following an attack by suspected hoodlums in Port Harcourt.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the incident occurred on March 21, 2026. The case was reported by Miss Divine Anyanwu of Elimgbu at the Abuloma Police Division.
Anyanwu reportedly told police that she and her friend, identified as Special Bensington, had boarded a Bolt ride from a hotel along Emmanuel Road, off Odili Road. While traveling through the Total Gospel area, also off Odili Road, they were allegedly attacked by unknown armed men suspected to have trailed them from the hotel.
The assailants, said to be operating a tricycle, reportedly opened fire on the victims, during which the deceased sustained gunshot injuries.
She was immediately rushed to BMH Hospital in Port Harcourt, where she later died while receiving treatment. Medical personnel on duty confirmed her death.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Abuloma Division led a team to both the crime scene and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations. The body of the deceased has since been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.
Police authorities disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further forensic investigation, with efforts ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The Command condemned the attack, describing it as heinous, and assured residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
