The Rivers State Police Command has issued a rejoinder to its earlier statement of March 31, 2026, correcting the identity of a prime suspect linked to a failed kidnap attempt in Port Harcourt.
In the updated statement released on April 2, the Command clarified that the suspect previously identified as Joseph Abibo is correctly named Joseph Aboy.
The case stems from a distress call received on March 20, 2026, from a 35-year-old resident, Mr. Fadi Nasser, who reported that armed men invaded his residence along Orogbum Crescent, Woji Road, in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Port Harcourt. The attackers reportedly attempted to abduct him and opened fire during the incident.
Despite the intensity of the attack, the victim escaped unharmed—an outcome security officials described as both fortunate and crucial in enabling a swift police response.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit in Aluu arrested the suspect, who later led officers to his gang’s hideout.
However, during a heavy exchange of gunfire, the suspect and six members of his gang escaped with bullet wounds.
The Command has now launched a manhunt for Joseph Aboy and his accomplices. He is described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, dark-complexioned, and bearing a spider tattoo on his right arm.
Members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of the suspect and his gang—particularly individuals with gunshot injuries—are urged to contact the police via 08032003514 or report to the nearest station.
The Police Command expressed regret over the earlier error and reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
