There was panic this morning at Dick Tiger street, along the Iloabuchi axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt, as mobile police officers engaged some heavily armed gunmen in a gun battle.
The gunmen, who were in a bus were being chased by the police officers which led to an exchange of gunfire.
Residents of the area, who were going about their normal businesses scampered for safety when they heard loud gunshots to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
Eyewitnesses, say one of the policemen, was shot in the arm during the gun duel, as they were unable to apprehended the fleeing hoodlums.
The Police resulted to shooting in the air after the unsuccessful attempt to apprehend the boys.
There is tension amongst residents of the area, as they are scared of what might happen next.
