The Rivers State Police Command has thwarted a violent clash between rival cult groups, the Klansmen Confraternity (KKK) and the Vikings, near a university in Port Harcourt.
The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, July 17, 2025, along Azikiwe/Opobo Lane Street in the Mile 2 Diobu area. Eyewitnesses said gunfire erupted between members of the two groups, prompting panic as pedestrians fled and nearby businesses shut down.
Police operatives from the Azikiwe Division and the Octopus Strike Force swiftly intervened, restoring order and arresting three suspects believed to be student cultists. One of the suspects is said to be a final-year university student in the state.
A firearm was recovered from the suspects, including an English-made revolver pistol, one live round, and three expended shells, according to police.
Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrests and seizure. “Investigation is ongoing with the arrest of members of the cult groups,” she stated.
The clash is the latest in a series of cult-related incidents in the state, prompting intensified security efforts to curb youth violence and gang activity.
