The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a seven-year-old girl, Alicia Olajumoke, who was reportedly attacked on Tuesday in Rumueme, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
According to a police statement, the incident was reported by the child’s mother, Glory Joseph of Agip Estate, who told officers that a woman identified as Success — surname unknown — allegedly took the child from her school around 2 p.m. and later attacked her at a residence.
Police said officers visited the scene and documented evidence before the victim was taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed her dead. The suspect was also taken to the same hospital and was likewise confirmed dead.
Authorities have deposited the child’s body at a morgue for autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.
The Police Command said preliminary investigations are underway and that additional information will be released as the case progresses.
