The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a cache of weapons in an intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling cult networks in the state.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, on Wednesday, the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Diseye Ukulu from Bayelsa State, was arrested on July 9, 2025, around 6:20 p.m. at Nnewi Street, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Ukulu, believed to be linked to ongoing rivalries between the D12 and BS cult groups — both allegedly affiliated with the deadly Deygbam cult — was apprehended by a joint team comprising operatives from the Special Operations and Intelligence Team (SOIT), Hawk Tactical Squad, Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU), and members of the Diobu vigilante group.
The police said the operation followed credible intelligence tied to recent killings in the Diobu axis of the city. Following Ukulu’s confession, officers proceeded to the residence of another suspect, Achionu Solomon Chukwuma, popularly known as “Solex,” where they recovered:
The police have taken the suspect and recovered weapons into custody, while further investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the group.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fighting crime and called on the public to provide timely information that can aid security efforts.
