The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended six suspects involved in the theft of a 1,000KVA transformer from NNPCL Estate in Rumuokwurushi, Port Harcourt. The transformer, valued at millions of Naira, was stolen on January 3, 2025, after the suspects allegedly tied up and robbed local security guards of their phones and money.
Acting on a petition about repeated attacks on security personnel and public assets, the C4i Intelligence Unit launched an operation leading to the arrests. The suspects include the alleged sponsor of the crime, the end receiver of the stolen transformer, facilitators, and those who assisted in transporting the equipment. The stolen transformer has been recovered.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to being part of a syndicate specializing in vandalizing and stealing electrical installations across Rivers State. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the group.
The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to curbing criminal activities and safeguarding public infrastructure.
