Operatives of the Ozuoba Police Division in Rivers State have arrested a landlord, Frimpong Samuel, for allegedly removing the roof of his tenant’s apartment along NTA Road, Port Harcourt.
The incident reportedly followed the tenant’s failure to vacate the premises two weeks after the expiration of his rent. The tenant, identified as Tochukwu Anozie, said his landlord had earlier served him a notice in December, instructing him not to renew his tenancy due to plans to renovate the apartment.
According to Anozie, his rent was due to expire in January 2026, and he appealed to the landlord for a 14-day grace period to enable him relocate to a new apartment he had already secured. He, however, expressed shock that before the expiration of the agreed grace period, the landlord allegedly arrived at the apartment with a carpenter and removed the roof.
Anozie claimed the action exposed his belongings to rainfall, resulting in damage to several items, including his academic certificates. He has since called for justice over the incident.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, CSP Grace Iringe Koko, said the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
