There are reports that President of the Students Union Government, University of Port Harcourt, Gift Ubabuike and other students of the University, were this morning arrested by Police officers attached to the Choba Division.
That, was after they confronted the officers over a barricade placed in front of the institution’s main gate, which is making it difficult for students, staff and visitors of the school to access the institution.
Spokesperson of the Students Union Government, Fred Forum disclosed this in a statement.
He alleged that the Police arrested and beat up the students leader and the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Chima Nwokocha during the fracas.
“Police arrest and beat up dean of students affairs, SUG President and other students of Uniport now” he said.
An eyewitness said after the students confronted the Police and removed the barricade, the officers were forced to release shots in the air to disperse them and arrested some students.
The police is yet to react to the incident. Efforts to reach police Spokesperson, Grace Koko proved abortive.
