The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Rivers State chapter, has announced that it will begin enforcing a performance levy on live music events across the state.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the association’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Abiye Howells, on behalf of the State Governor of PMAN, Comrade Moses Mabadeje, popularly known as Mozy B.
According to the statement, the levy will apply to non-members of PMAN, including live bands, music groups, hotels, bars, lounges, event centres, show organizers, and promoters hosting live musical performances in Rivers State.
PMAN clarified that registered members of the association will be exempted from the levy. Mabadeje emphasised that the move is in line with the Trade Union Act and backed by the Federal Government, as PMAN remains the recognised body regulating the music profession in Nigeria.
He said the funds generated through the levy would be used to support the welfare of musicians and fund association activities, in accordance with Article 8 of the PMAN Constitution (2023 amendment).
To ensure compliance, the association has constituted a task force to begin enforcement immediately. The PMAN Governor called on stakeholders to cooperate with the association for the smooth implementation of the policy and to promote harmony between the body and industry players.
