The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has appointed Mr. Sydney Sparrow as Acting National President following the suspension of the association’s substantive president, Mr. Pretty Okafor.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by PMAN’s National Treasurer, Mr. Baba Ojonugwa, and made available to journalists in Owerri on Friday.
According to Ojonugwa, Sparrow’s appointment emerged from an emergency NEC meeting convened on the night of December 25, 2025, to address what he described as serious governance and constitutional issues within the association.
He explained that the NEC, acting in accordance with the powers granted by the PMAN Constitution, resolved to suspend the president pending the conclusion of a comprehensive investigation and disciplinary process.
Ojonugwa noted that the suspension was based on allegations including repeated breaches of constitutional provisions, abuse of office, disregard for due process, and actions considered harmful to the welfare, credibility, and integrity of the association.
He added that the NEC also adopted a number of wide-ranging resolutions aimed at restoring order, accountability, and transparency in the running of PMAN.
