The Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon. Ichemati Ezebunwo has approved the immediate construction of a concrete pedestrian bridge in Ward 6, Okrika Waterside, following reports about the deteriorating state of the existing makeshift wooden bridge.
The decision came after a Facebook post highlighting the bridge’s hazardous condition went viral, detailing incidents of severe injuries caused by slips and falls. Upon receiving the reports, the mayor dispatched a team to verify the claims and subsequently visited the area.
According to him, the new footbridge which is part of the administration’s efforts to enhance public safety and well-being, will feature side rails for added security and streetlights for improved nighttime visibility. The mayor emphasized that the project aligns with his commitment to addressing residents’ needs and ensuring seamless connectivity for pedestrians.
He stated that construction is set to begin immediately, with the completed bridge expected to provide a safer and more reliable pathway for the community.
