The foot of the pedestrian bridge close to Waterlines junction in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has now turned into a dump site.
The bridge, which was built solely for pedestrians to cross the ever-busy Aba Express Road, is now a shadow of itself as refuse has taken over its premises.
Our correspondent, who visited the area, noted that the foot of the bridge has turned into an eye sour, as pedestrians hardly use it due to its sorry state.
From our findings, residents of the area normally come at nights to dump refuse at the spot. This is despite warnings from the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, for residents of the state to bag their waste properly and drop at approved sites.
Despite the fact that the road is no longer as busy as it used to, due to the construction of the Waterlines Flyover, it is still no excuse to turn that area into a dump site.
We therefore call on the Rivers State Waste Management Agency to with immediate effect, evacuate wastes close to the bridge and put measures in place to stop the indiscriminate dumping of refuse at the spot.
