Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that the over 50-kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road project is expected to be completed and delivered by October this year.
Fubara gave the assurance after inspecting ongoing work on the road, which traverses at least five local government areas and is aimed at reducing traffic congestion within Port Harcourt and neighbouring communities.
He said the contractor, Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, has reaffirmed its commitment to meeting the delivery deadline, provided funding for the project remains steady. The governor pledged that his administration would continue to make funds available to ensure uninterrupted construction despite prevailing challenges.
According to him, the project was originally scheduled for about 36 months, and the inspection was carried out to verify the level of progress achieved so far. He expressed confidence that the contractor would keep to the October timeline with sustained government support.
Fubara described the Ring Road as a strategic infrastructure project conceived by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, noting that it remains central to the state’s long-term urban and economic development plan.
He added that completing the project aligns with the original vision behind it and would deliver lasting benefits for residents and future generations.
