His statement reads,
In August 2020, someone flooded my WhatsApp with pictures of decaying human body he said were that of his older brother allegedly killed at the premises of the company he worked for at Woji. The deceased was a father of two beautiful girls and the wife was also pregnant at the time he was murdered.
Among the documents he sent to me were the petitions addressed to the Rivers CP, IGP and other relevant authorities.
Confused, I asked him if we could talk via WhatsApp call. He said that someone had given him my number. As he narrated his story, I was numb for a while. He said the owner of the company is an influential aide to one of the governors in the Akwa/Cross axis and he had used his connect in the police to block further investigation into the mysterious death of his brother. According to him, he needed help.
The next day, Michael and I drove to Diobu to the office of the lawyer the family had hired. He gave us additional documents and the little gains that they have made. From there, we went to the police command, tried speaking with the management of the company but they declined.
Next step was to get some national dailies to carry the story. So I activated my contacts and it appeared on two national dailies. The next line of action was to get the Civil Society Organisations to push for a thorough investigation. The media usually pass such torches to CSOs who then pressure relevant authorities to act.
A week later, I spoke to Enefaa Georgewill for the first time and linked our guy to him. Enefaa, always ready to assist was waiting for the our guy to come with his information. Our guy never showed up again. We were made to look like fools for working so hard to get his deceased brother justice.
After blanking me out for two months, our guy came back with an apology. The owner of the company, having found his name in the press didn’t want further escalation of the matter. So he called the family and settled them.
Me: Why didn’t you tell me all these while? I felt that you were being threatened.
His response: You won’t understand bros.
Me: It’s very obvious.
