Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, won the presidential election in Rivers State.
Speaking on Saturday during an X Space discussion, Amaechi said, “I can agree with you to some extent that Obi won Rivers State, but I don’t know how the results were changed.”
His remarks come amid lingering controversy over the February 2023 presidential poll in Rivers, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner.
Amaechi also disclosed that he and former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, initiated discussions that led to the formation of an opposition coalition aimed at challenging the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said the talks, which began privately between him and Fayemi, later drew in former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal and Boss Mustapha, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, and former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi, among others.
The coalition has since adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.
