LPeter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, was in Port Harcourt on Sunday to celebrate the 72nd birthday of philanthropist Mr. Mac Oruche, who marked the occasion with a ₦100 million donation to the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt for the establishment of a School of Nursing Sciences.
Obi described Oruche as a “dear elder brother” known for his compassion and dedication to societal development. He praised the celebrant’s decision to channel his birthday into a project aimed at boosting healthcare and education, noting that Rivers State has fewer than three nursing schools despite the critical role of healthcare in development.
During the thanksgiving ceremony, Oruche urged greater investment in human capital, health, and education, pledging his continued support for such causes. Inspired by the gesture, Obi announced a ₦15 million contribution to the project, alongside donations from other attendees.
He prayed for God to grant Oruche more years of health, happiness, and service to humanity.
