Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the brutal treatment of a young woman in Anambra State, describing the incident as an act of “primitive wickedness and savagery.”
In a statement on Tuesday, Obi said he was heartbroken that such cruelty could still occur in 2025, stressing that no society should tolerate the humiliation and dehumanization of its citizens, especially women and vulnerable groups.
“This is not only a violation of law and morality but also a direct assault on our collective humanity,” he said, noting that the victim could have been anyone’s daughter or sister.
The former governor of Anambra urged relevant authorities to swiftly apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent against future acts of barbarism.
He further called for stronger safeguards and policies to protect the weak while reinforcing societal values that uphold human dignity.
“Our humanity must always come first. Without it, we are nothing but a people adrift in cruelty,” Obi added.
