Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has sacked the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Mr. Sunny Okere with immediate effect. This is for disobeying and obstructing the enforcement of the state guidelines on public burials.
The governor who made this known in a state wide broadcast yesterday said, the sack of Okere should serve as a lesson to all other public officers who may wish to be irresponsible and undermine the government’s effort in the fight against the virus.
Wike who expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of some organizations and residents to comply with the COVID-19 protocols called on security operatives to enforce the directives of the government.
He said markets in the state would be reopened when the government feels it is safe to reopen them. He appealed to residents of the state to continue practicing good respiratory hygiene in line with NCDC protocols.
